I have an egreat M34A with the firmware from last Dec; which I think is current
it is working fine overall and it plays DTS HD and Dolby TrueHD fine but it struggles with PCM 5.1 uncompressed sound from blu-ray files
It will usually only play the left and right channels
I originally thought it was my pre amp but I can play blu-ray discs with PCM 5.1 and they work fine but playing those files from the M34A is a problem with no center or rear channels
does anyone know how to correct this? I have not seen any new firmware to address this issue
please let me know

Hi, I was wondering if this FW would work on my EG-M35A? I have 50-17-091202-15EGR-405-000, on at the moment, but the app's will not work. I have tried loading them a few times now using diffrent HD and always get the same message 'source file invalid' so it looks like the NMT App's mite have a problem. Any thoughts?

EG-M34A uses the old Realtek chipset.
EG-M35A uses the newer Sigma Designs chipset.
Firmwares are not cross-flashable between the two competing chipsets.
EDIT.... oops.... I posted incorrect info, see post by zrdb below.

Wrong-the EG-34A uses the old Sigma 8635, the EG-M35A also uses the Sigma 8635-the firmware should be interchangeable between the 2.

I tried using the FW last night and nothing happened! My player 'timed outed' and then did not want to boot! took me most of the night playing around with it to get it working properly again. I am actuly only really wanting to get the app's to work on this player. It plays most files very well, so I thing the fw is still good. Just the networking part that is driving me mad!

I had read somewhere that Popcorn Hour is disabling cross flashing. I was wondering if I use this firmware will I still be able to install the NMT applications? I really need these functions.

OK, I 've tested crossflashing for everyone.
1. Install firmware from Egreat ftp above (wakeup360's post). From now on your Egreat M34A will think it's a PCH A-110!
2. Install latest PCH A-110 firmware, with NMT apps from here ----> http://www.popcornhour.com/download/...ware-A110.html
Use a clean hard drive to install the NMT apps (not one with Egreat NMT apps installed in it, it won't let you install over them)
Done!!!

New popcornhour a-110 firmware out ( check above for download link) with header compression removal fix for .mkv
firmware + nmt apps work 100% on the egreat m34a
kudos to popcornhour for still supporting their older products (unlike western digital and others)

Since we're discussing cross flashing between PCH & Egreat...
For those with the original PopcornHour A-100 (not the A-110) there is a crossflash available from the Egreat EG-M31a (not the EG-M34a discussed in this thread) to enable DTS downmix for the A-100. I used on my A-100 and it works perfectly. DTS downmix is physically possible with the A-100's hardware, but PCH didn't pay for the license for it, but Egreat did (supposedly).
Do a google search for 'dts downmix for a-100' if you're interested.
And as always- cross flash @ your own risk!

+1
That's one thing that sucks about Egreat.... their support is almost zero!
If I had to guess, I'd say all their FW is probably hacked/patched PCH firmware that they haven't payed for, including their DTS license.

Try installing from USB, maybe downloading the firmware runs a system check or something.

First install the FW from post# 386 in this thread, reboot and confirm that you see the PopcornHour (rather than egreat) startup splash screen, then download the current PCH A-110 firmware onto a USB flashdrive then update from there. Worked perfect for me on my EG-M34A.

I'll give the post #386 file a shot.
I used the most recent file off the EGreat web site and it installed fine but i don't recall seeing anything popcornhour at all.
Once I'd done that I downloaded the pch firmware and tried to update but then got the cross customer error message.
I then got adventurous and tried the Dune tool. It made a backup fine, but I tried five times to install the pch firmware included with it and each time it went about two minutes and then went back to the blue background nmt screen and said the requested action couldn't be performed and to press the return button. when I did it went back to the Dune menu screen.
I rebooted and then it thought it was a popcorn hour and I could even update with the most recent popcorn hour firmware, however the network connection didn't work. It'd never get an IP address in automatic and wouldn't work in manual mode either.
I rebooted and tried the pch firmware recovery tool but it blew right by it and just booted normally.
I decided to revert back so I attempted to use the Dune tool to restore the original firmware - it again would go for about two minutes and then error out. Tried five times in a row.
I then rebooted and got the EGreat 1080i screen, then a flash and nothing - it was deader than a doornail! I tried changing the tv type and stuff but nothing worked.
I then downloaded and tried the EGreat firmware recovery tool and it worked a treat - booted up, did the red screen, red screen with white dots, then white screen. Upon rebooting it was back up and running - whew!
I'm wondering if there aren't different pcb board versions with slight differences or something?
Like I said though, I never saw anything pch related after using the last update on the EGreat support page so I think I'll suck it up and try the one from the link in post #386 - wish me luck!

OK, so you could like follow the directions and use the file linked to in post #386, or you could do it my way via the Dune let's dork the box and luck out and recover it but never quite get it working as a pch route . . . I suggest the follow the directions route!
I downloaded the proper file and it updated as normal and when it rebooted it was a popcorn hour! I even hit the check for updates button over in the maintenance section and it found and updated the firmware without issue!
So far so good, I couldn't find anything that didn't work as normal and it even kept all my network shares, settings, etc. just like a normal firmware update. I don't have a hard drive attached to this unit though so I couldn't test the sata port, I will shortly though and I'll make a point to use it a bit just to make sure everything is working fine but from everyone else's experiences I'm sure they will.
Thanks guys - I appreciate it and I humbly apologize for not following the directions in the first place!

Glad it worked out for you slr_65....
It's pretty straight forward if you look at post 386. I'm very cautious when performing unauthorized actions such as cross-flashing so I made sure that others did successfully cross-flash with that modded PCH firmware before I tried it on my EG-M34A.
It doesn't really seem like there's too much more to be done with the PCH A-110/EG-M34A players firmware wise at this point case everything just works- I may just leave my EG-M34A where it is now with the current PCH A-110 FW.

I dunno about that, there's still quite a few bugs being found in the current firmware from what I've read. For the most part though everything does work.
One thing I would like is the ability to control how much it skips forward or backwards for ff/rw. My htpc runs GBPVR and I have the fast forward set to 30 seconds and the rewind set to 10 seconds and that just works PERFECTLY.

Thx wakeup360 for posting links to the cross-flashable firmware. Seems impossible to find any recent updates on egreat's sites (most of which look dead now).
I was concerned that I'd lose DTS downmix by going from the eGreat firmware to PCH. Happily I can report that DTS downmix continues to work. Upgrading to the latest PCH A110 firmware adds support for MKV compressed headers which is great.

Hi,
I want to crossflash my Egreat M34A with the firmware from the Popcorn 110A.
( I'm going to use the firmware mentioned in post#368 by wakeup 360)
I have a harddisk formatted ext2, connected via the SATA cable, with the Egreat applications on it.
Should I disconnect this harddisk before flashing the firmware, or do I need to format it with NTSF?
Or will I be prompted by the firmware to format the harddisk?
What kind of applications will I get after flashing the firmware from the popcorn?

Hi, I saw one of the forums that a user already installed a-110 firmware to m32b via pch recovery mode.
I dont know the details but i will also be glad if somebody can share that details.

Has anything changed as far as cross flashing the egreat m34a with the pch firmware? I downloaded the firmware from post 386 and I have yet to flash. I read above that some users were having issues flashing the latest pch firmware and wanted to know what is the latest pch firmware that will flash to the cross flashed m34a?
Any new information would be greatly appreciated.
